WELLINGTON

MARKET OVERVIEW

Wellington

The Wellington market continues to be busy. Permanent and fixed-term opportunities are prevalent but contract is definitely picking up momentum. Although we have returned to some semblance of pre-COVID normality, some employers are continuing to allow their teams to work remotely. However, whilst the preference is for employees to come into the office, especially new starters, flexibility does appear to be a key priority for some, with a number of employers introducing rosters to allow for hybrid office/work from home arrangements.

In terms of hiring, we’re seeing many employers become increasingly open to interviewing candidates NZ-wide who are looking to relocate. As NZ's international borders remain closed, we're seeing employers increasingly turn to NZ's regional talent pools to locate top candidates.

Demand is also high for all types of architects, data skillsets (engineers, scientists, developers) and developers (predominantly .Net and Java), whilst demand for Project Managers and Business Analysts varies from week to week. Conversely, there is not a lot of demand for infrastructure skill sets such as engineers, service desk, and helpdesk. We expect that these trends will continue over the next 12 months.
