CANBERRA

MARKET OVERVIEW
Canberra
Since COVID-19 restrictions were introduced, the majority of Canberra’s IT workforce were able to successfully work from home for the majority of 2020. We have now seen over the last three months a large number of government departments return to work full time in their offices, or implement a hybrid working from home and office model. Although a number of private organisations are still working from home in some capacity, some have also chosen to return to office environments.
The backend of 2020 saw a surge in roles, and we expect to see the same volume of opportunities across most skill sets and clients for the remainder of the financial year. With border restrictions in place at certain times of the year, attracting interstate candidates has been a more challenging process.
Hiring managers are continuing to seek those with the right technical skills. We are continuing to see a high demand for DevOps Engineers, Cybersecurity roles, Cloud-related skills, digital resources, and Full-stack and Java developers. Contractors are continuing to seek stability and longevity when considering new opportunities.
