The Canberra market has seen an increase in roles compared to previous years. The federal election has cemented stability within Government which has allowed departments to effectively plan and continue on with recruitment and delivery of election promises.

We have seen big growth and demands around digital resources as most departments are going through their own digital transformation. Another key area of growth has been around cyber security and the need to protect departmental data and information. While we have seen a slight downturn in recruitment with some of the larger departments, we have seen medium and smaller agencies experience increased activity across most areas of recruitment as they look to transform. Rates remain high in the capital due to a skill shortage of candidates across the board as most departments have the need for a security clearance so luring interstate candidates has proved to be more difficult. We expect this to continue into the New Year. 2020 remains positive for the Canberra market with most departments showing signs they are on the up as the pressure to deliver on projects builds.
