COVID-19 Update

With the world chartering through unfamiliar waters, here’s what we are seeing in the Canberra market.

As with most of us, the majority of contractors are now working from home. Most employers have adopted flexible hours to accommodate contractors and their home lives. We are also seeing the redeployment of staff to other departments to help accommodate workloads.

While we have seen a slowdown in terms of numbers of new roles released to market, clients are still needing to hire and fill positions both in government and the private sector. The volume of these roles is close to what we would expect at this time of year. We believe that as time goes on, clients will still need to deliver on projects and we anticipate that more roles will be released again.

Hiring managers are still seeking those who have the right technical skills. Skills in highest demand are business analysis; UI and UX design; user research; DevOps and Cloud engineering and architecture; as well as skills in SAP.

Candidates are seeking stability and longevity. For existing workforces, teams want reassurance that their roles are safe.

In Canberra, we have not observed any significant change in IT salaries or contractor rates over the past few months.
